This seminar will offer a space for students to explore popular culture and its expression in various media through Japanese history. Students will be encouraged to think not only about the formal features of Japanese popular fiction, music, manga, video games, etc., but also about their social and historical implications, as well as their role in the modern global circulation of ideas and entertainment.
